Lesson 6: Impact of Reviews

Online Reviews

There are two main reasons online reviews are important:

  1. Reviews play a vital role in SEO. If you have thousands of 5-star reviews, Google will reward you by improving where your listing appears on their search results.

  2. Current and new customers pay careful attention to reviews. Think about it from your perspective, are you more likely to be interested in a company with a 4.8-star review or one with a 2-star review? This is why it is so important to carefully cultivate your online reviews.

If you get a bad review, be sure to reach out to the customer to understand the problem and make it right.

You’ll definitely want to pay attention to Google Reviews since so many people use Google for Internet searches. However, if there are review sites specific to your industry (Trip Advisor, yelp, Door Dash, etc.), be sure to check these reviews on a regular basis.

Action Items:

  1. Audit your website and decide on one incentive to create (Free download, free consultation, special offer, etc.), then publicize it in person and online

  2. Set up accounts with Google My Business and Google Analytics

  3. Set a reminder on your phone or calendar to check reviews on a weekly basis

  4. Ask customers to leave reviews after their interactions with your company. You can do this in person, by email, or on social media, depending on your business.
